how to pack {a HEALTHY} lunch for the kiddies

new clothes. check.

new school supplies. check.

stressed out parents as they face a school year of packing lunches. check.

while the kids may be excited to get back to school, this time of year can bring with it dread for many parents at the vary thought of packing school lunches. I want to share with you an amazing resource that I am sure will help alleviate some of this anxiety as you start to pack school lunches + snacks!

here is one lunch example.

I love the website 100 Days of Real Food for so many reasons. click here for all sorts of healthy lunch ideas that the kids will love. I hope this will help to eliminate the guess work of what to pack for your children.

note: in the example above, the snack choice is kettle chips. while I don’t recommend sending these to school with your child every day, it can be nice to treat your kids every once and awhile. in my opinion, it’s all about balance.

as always, planning your meals in advance is essential to not only ensure you and your family are eating healthy but it will help eliminate the stress of meal prep throughout the week. In case you missed it, I discussed how to plan easy + healthy meals in a previous blog post that you can see here.

I encourage you to choose whole foods that will ensure your kids are getting the nutrition {brain food} that they need to get through their often long and active days in and out of the classroom.

do you have any quick tips that help you to pack healthy lunches for your kids? please share :)

  1. Hey Tash,

My sis sends her little one to preschool and found a great idea!! Instead of using a bunch of containers, she uses one larger one and places cupcake holders in the container. Then in each cupcake shell she puts a different healthy snack like veggies, cheese, fruit etc. My niece usually eats her entire lunch because everything is in view and in small amounts. Plus the cupcake holders make it look cute :)

  2. I’m a big fan of making a bunch of ready to go lunches. I typically make mini crustless quiches in muffin pans, soups and chili in individual containers & bean salads.
I also cook up, cut up and bag chicken to quickly add to a salad or wrap!

@Laura – that is such a fabulous idea! presentation is everything, even for the wee ones! thanks so much for sharing that.

@Hailey – that sounds like a fabulous menu! I am so glad that prepping in advance works for you, hopefully some other moms will try it out, if they haven’t already. thanks so much for sharing!
